The Lord's Acre in Fairview
What a beautiful way to build Community! Yesterday, I took a break from writing and drove through the Hickory Nut Gorge to Fairview. Here are some photos of The Lord's Acre located in the town's business district. It's a local garden project that provides fresh, organic vegetables for several food banks and food agencies in the region. In 2010, their second growing season, they grew and gave away over 5.6 tons of produce with the help of 25,000 volunteer hours, and had 9 churches and 4 schools and colleges come volunteer. This project builds community with everyone working side by side, learning and sharing organic gardening skills. Take a look at their website: www.thelordsacre.org.

Render Unto the Valley
I'm thrilled with the cover of my new book. The photograph was taken on Route 74 in the Hickory Nut Gorge looking out at the Fairview valley. The book will be available at book stores and on-line in late January. Researching this novel was enthralling. This valley is so rich in history. The challenges that the early settlers faced in this often harsh, hard-scrabble environment forged a unique American character that exists to this day in these mountains, hamlets and farms.
